I really really genuinely believe that being able to drive a manual should be a required skill in order to get your driver's license.

Why??

I certainly have enough to freak out about when I'm driving without having to add another complication.

Hmm...I actually think that driving a stickshift makes it easier. It's like...I don't know? More fluid or something?
It's kindof like config files vs GUI next-button-machines. For some reason, even though config files are more complicated, they're a lot easier...

Your brain assigns a higher thread priority to driving when you have to actively involve your foreground consciousness in doing it ;-).

You know a lot more about your car when you know how to drive a stick. You are able to treat a automatic better and are able to do more with an automatic if you know how to drive a stick. It is a good skill for people to have.

You know, the one advantage I can think of is it might get people to STOP USING THE PHONE when they're driving.
